The construction of the small miner church "Maria Schnee" (Maria Snow) was started in 1720, initiated due to the avalanche of 1693 where 79 miners were trapped and 27 of them killed in the miner‘s quarter at the brook which was new at that time. A plaque inside the church is listing the names and showing illustrations of those who were involved in the desaster. The church was built onto the former manor house and officially opened in 1722. The consecration of the church on Schneeberg was originally held on the Sunday after August 5 (Maria Schnee). The Schneeberg fair was then celebrated on the "Hoch-Unser-Frauen-Tag" (15th of August, Assumption Day). The Patrozinium Feast is celebrated on the Sunday after the "Letzt-Unser-Frauen-Tag" (8th of September, Maria Geburt = Birth of Maria). On both feast days a mass is held and especially on August 15th many visitors come to Schneeberg. In 1731 the church was equipped with two small bells and in 1738 with the stations of the cross and a mission cross. In 1955 there was a fire in one of the buildings built onto which reduced the complex of buildings to ashes. In 1990 the reconstruction of the little church (without neighbouring buildings) was started, the official opening was in 1993. The baroque tabernacle which was since the fire stored in a barracks in Sterzing, came back to the Schneeberg mountain on June 9, 2000 and was restored in 2003.
